Finding the best postal scale may sound easier than it is, as scales have quite a few properties you need to take into account.
What is the best postal scale?
Check these important features and make sure the scale of your choice ticks all the boxes!
- It should have tare function, which you can use to put a basket on the scale, tare it, and then only measure what you put inside.
- It should have hold function to keep the display on for a longer time.
If you plan to measure large objects, getting a scale with the display connected to it with a cord is a great idea. The best scales have a 10 year warranty, do not settle for less.
- Most scales can work both off battery power and off the mains - it's practical as you can use them if the battery runs out or you can rely on the battery when a socket is too far away.
- Check the reviews if the buyers experienced inconsistent readings - just avoid any scale that's not accurate enough.
The higher the maximum weight a scale can measure, the less accurate it will be. This is normal. While measuring your own weight with these devices is not supported, it works as long as you are well bellow the maximum weight limit and step on + step off the scale gently.
- They won't send the weight to your computer via USB cable. Check this scale if you need computer connection.
- Won't calculate the amount of postage required.
- The display will turn off after a few minutes, so you can't use these for measuring e.g. beer kegs.
- There's no way to disable the auto-off feature.
- These scales will not work well in the cold, for example in a cold store.

Calibration is already done for you at the factory, but you can calibrate it yourself too using a 10 kg weight.
Smart Weigh Digital Shipping and Postal Scale
The Smart Weigh Digital Shipping and Postal Scale has a 3 feet cord between the display and the scale, you can further stretch this to 5 feet.
